[2] Aichi EXPO 2005 in Nagoya Japan

MPF will hold a workshop and make a stage performance at the EXPO! (Please see our LINKS page to connect to the Expo).

June 7 – 9, 2005: A Stage Performance <10 Steps to Reach the Global Village>

June 6 – 19, 2005: A Workshop

  • Contents of Stage Performance

With the DVD projected on the large stage screen, the audience will make a voyage riding on a virtual roller coaster to find a way to care for the earth. Making stops at certain Steps, they will witness many man-made disasters such as genocide, AIDS, refugee crises, discuss the new rules of the Global Village, and experience home stays in India and Brazil. At the end, they will realize that it is their mission to create the “Global Village” where people will not be harmed just because they have different beliefs and where the entire world can be each person’s “Playing Field” for a lifetime.
  • Contents of Workshop

What is CQ? IQ (=Intelligence Quotient) and EQ (=Emotional Intelligence) are commonly known, but CQ (=Cultural Quotient) is rather new. CQ measures how well you understand cross-cultural and multicultural issues in the world.

Such terms as Cross-cultural Quotient and Intercultural Quotient are already being used. So we’ll focus on:

CQ = Cultural & Communication Quotient

    1. A Board Game “10 Steps to the Global Village”

The participant(s) (an individual, a family or a group) will answer each question in a Quiz, starting at Step 1. If the answer is correct, the model roller coaster (attached to the Learning Map with magnets) will ascend. If incorrect, it descends.

If the participant can reach Step 10, congratulations!

    2. Display of School Textbooks from Various Countries

A total of 17 junior and senior high school textbooks in world history, geography and world affairs from 16 countries will be displayed with the translated text (English and Japanese) which describes modern Japan. The countries are:

Europe ……………  Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland, UK
Asia ………………   China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Vietnam
      North America ……  Mexico, USA
      South America ……  Brazil

The objective is to learn the facts of how each country selects the topics and explains one country such as Japan through its cultural lens, that is, out of its own interests and concerns.

This display sends a message that in addition to school textbooks written and edited by each country, there is a clear need to develop learning material that all children in the world could use as a common platform for understanding. (See “Further Reading” below)

    3. Home Stay Country Search Game

This is a computer-aided game in which the participants identify which country or countries are recommended to do an international home stay, based on the participant’s answers to four questions.

First, identify where the country is located. Then, enjoying beautiful photos, the participant will have a short interactive lesson about the country.

  • Further Readings on Current Topic:

China and Korea have recently made strong protests against the way Japan has handled past invasions. The EXPO organizer therefore suddenly refused MPF’s request to display any text related to Japan’s past invasions of Asian countries.
